What a Destination Wedding Really Costs in South India
Destination weddings look expensive because the costs move around, not because they are always higher. The three big buckets are resort buyout or room block, guest travel, and decor freight.
For 150–300 guests at a hill-station or coastal resort, plan on a partial buyout with a two-night minimum. Resorts price per room-night with mandatory food plans, so your catering budget largely collapses into the room rate.
Guest travel is where families overspend. Chartering buses from a single origin city is almost always cheaper and more predictable than reimbursing individual travel, and it gets everyone to the ceremony on time.
Decor freight and crew accommodation are the line items people forget. Transporting floral structures and lighting to a remote venue adds a day of labour on each side, and your crew needs to sleep somewhere.
Keep a 10 percent buffer. Weather, extended bar hours and last-minute guest additions are the three things that reliably push a destination wedding over budget.
